Overview
Job Title: Graduate Assistant - Library
Department: Library
Reports To: Library Director
Job Type: This is a part time, exempt position.
General Description: Assists managing the operation of the Library Circulation Desk; directs the work of work study students during hours on duty.
Responsibilities
- Opens and closes the library building according to established procedures
- Maintains order and safety in the library during open hours and acts as building supervisor; enforces library policies and procedures
- Acts as building supervisor when other library staff are not on duty; enforces library policy; consults with supervisor or other library staff when needed
- Directs the work of library work study students during hours on duty, assigning tasks as appropriate
- Operates circulation desk: charges and discharges library materials, collects fines, reserves equipment, registers on-site borrowers, etc.
- Answers the main library telephone and responds to callers’ needs
- Assists in the setup and use of equipment in the Library Auditorium
- Answers basic procedural and directional questions
- Provides basic computer/printer support for student lab computers
- Performs other duties and completes special projects that are essential to the achievement of efficient library operations
- Cooperates with others in the timely and effective completion of assigned responsibilities
Qualifications
Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required
- One year office experience
- PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Supervisory experience

- Ability to lift, move, and carry a minimum of twenty pounds up and down stairs
Work Schedule
21 hours per week with required evening work during Fall and Spring semesters. Required Hours (21) during Fall/Spring semesters: 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Required Hours (20) during Summer: (if taking Summer courses) Within 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday
