Job Title: Grant Writer

Location: Hope, New Jersey (Remote work available)

Employment Type: Part-time, non-exempt

Work Schedule: 24 hrs/week, with the possibility of full-time. Set schedule preferred.

Salary: $35.00/hr

Key Responsibilities

  • Research Funding Opportunities: Conduct comprehensive research to identify potential grant opportunities that align with the organization's goals and mission.
  • Proposal Development and Writing: Draft persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents that effectively communicate project goals, methodologies, and anticipated outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with program managers, finance departments, and other stakeholders to gather necessary data, statistics, and information for grant proposals and reports.
  • Grant Management: Assist in the management of the entire grant lifecycle, including tracking deadlines, preparing and submitting applications, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring compliance with funder guidelines and requirements.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports to funders, detailing project progress, outcomes, and financial expenditures.
  • Funder Relations: Develop and maintain positive relationships with funders, including responding to inquiries and providing updates on funded initiatives.
  • Government Grants: Write and submit government grant applications via Grants.gov, SAM.gov, and agency portals. Interpret federal funding announcements and eligibility requirements. Develop narratives, work plans, and metrics aligned with agency goals. Track status updates, feedback, and post-award deliverables.

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of grant writing experience across multiple funder types. Proven success securing five- and six-figure grants.
  • Strong Writing & Communication Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and formatting skills with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive narratives. Able to tailor writing style to different funder audiences.
  • Research & Analytical Skills: Proven ability to conduct thorough research, analyze data, synthesize complex information effectively; strategic thinking and persuasive writing. Knowledge of federal budget forms and logic models. Experience in proposal budgeting and post-award reporting.
  • Organizational Skills: Effective leadership and collaboration across program areas. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work autonomously and meet hard deadlines.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with grant databases, portals (e.g., Grants.gov, Foundation Directory Online, Instrumentl), and CRM systems; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace tools.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding & Knowledge: Of Sustainable Agriculture, Food Insecurity, and Watershed Resource Protection a plus.
  • Certifications: Grant Professionals Certification (CPC) a plus.

This position requires interaction with many different stakeholders. As an ambassador for the Foodshed Alliance, team members are expected to treat all parties with dignity and respect to maintain a community of openness and inclusiveness. The Foodshed Alliance is a program of a small nonprofit; at all times, a “pitch-in” spirit is expected. Assistance on special projects may be required in addition to normal duties.
