Audio Visual Technician I

Job Description

Objective

The Audio-Visual Technician I is responsible for providing professional and effective audio-visual (AV) support in the operation, training, and general maintenance of equipment and systems used to support organizational operations and academic needs. Responsible for supporting day-to-day activities, events, and addressing user problems. Under supervision, assists with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting of AV equipment and systems.

Essential Functions

  • Operate and monitor on-premise equipment.
  • Assist and guide users with the use of equipment.
  • Support the set-up of AV equipment on and off university premises as required.
  • Report equipment problems and assist with repairs with Level II AV staff.
  • Assist with the installation of AV components.
  • Ensure events are recorded and accessible through the video management platform.
  • Assist with equipment storage and transportation activities in a safe and secure manner.
  • Assist with the retrieval and restoration of backup video content.
  • Support a maintenance schedule on AV equipment.
  • Respond to incoming support tickets, emails, and phone calls and ensure timely and accurate responses.
  • Attending internal and external training workshops as directed.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Reliable, attentive to detail, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Good understanding of audio-visual systems, Microsoft Windows environment, internet and networking.
  • Familiarity with an academic support environment.
  • Good knowledge of standard technical support best practices.
  • Familiarity with processes and applications to provide virtual support.
  • Demonstrate a good level of confidence in judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and adjust priorities based on organizational need.
  • Success in functioning in an environment for continual professional growth and self-motivation to achieve goals.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, multi-function units, and storage cabinets.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift or move audio-visual equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • The ability to maintain good concentration.
  • Drive company vehicles as needed.

Hours and Travel

  • A typical work week is 40 hours Monday through Friday, with a flexible start, lunch break, and end day.
  • Evening, weekend and overtime work may be required.
  • This job may require occasional travel.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Qualifications

  • One to two years prior experience working with AV equipment.
  • A minimum of five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including English Language
  • Diploma in Electronics or Electrical Installation
  • Proficiency with both PC and Mac
  • Working knowledge of AV equipment as well as a wide range of computer hardware and software preferred
  • Confident in manual handling and lifting of audio-visual equipment.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Valid B class driver’s license preferred.
