Music Minister, Northwest Gospel Church: Summit View

This is a Part or Full-Time | Exempt role. The Music Minister reports to the Local Lead Pastor (LLP) at Northwest Gospel Church: Summit View (SV) and will work directly with SV staff, church members, volunteers, and key leaders.

Position Summary

At Northwest Gospel Church (NGC), we sing in response to God’s Word and His work in our lives. In our gatherings, we use music to glorify God and to teach/remind ourselves and each other of the gospel. The primary goal of the Music Minister is to equip and encourage our church to do what we are made to do–worship.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Lead the Sunday music team. Oversee all aspects of NGC’s music team, including:
  • Volunteer recruitment and development for band members and production teams
  • Caring for, investing in, and helping disciple our musicians and production volunteers
  • Overseeing scheduling of all Sunday morning bands and production volunteers (in collaboration with Communications Coordinator)
  • Overseeing the primary song catalog to help guard the gate, viewing music as a formational tool that teaches theology, shapes discipleship, and creates culture
  • Contextualize musical worship to a Pacific Northwest context
  • Managing music administrative tasks (Planning Center, chord charts, gear storage and organization) and production/technology in Sunday gatherings (training others on sound, lighting, video)
  • Leading a weekly Sunday-specific rehearsal
  • Leading regular team nights to build community
  • Sunday morning gatherings. In collaboration with the LLP, create and execute the Sunday morning liturgy, including set lists, gospel-centered liturgy, and leadership in worship, with potential for other creative elements.
    • Lead music for Sunday morning
    • Equip others to lead music for Sunday morning
    • Collaborate on set lists to align with sermon for formational impact
    • Curate song catalog to align with theological convictions
    • Construct liturgy to align with theological convictions
    • Lead call to worship, confession, assurance of grace, communion, and other liturgical elements
    • Work with LLP to evaluate weekly and annual gathering rhythms
  • Lead and equip Summit View Youth and Kids music teams. Support student musicians and oversee worship in youth and kids spaces, with primary goal of equipping others to execute music in those areas
  • Creative team leadership. Help cultivate a culture of creativity, beauty, and art within the SV church family
  • General leadership. Serve as a flexible, all-hands-on-deck leader to fill gaps as needed (e.g., community, groups, discipleship, mission, young adults, etc.)

    Metrics of Success

    While ministry is not purely measurable, key metrics include:

    • Volunteer recruitment, engagement, retention, and development on Sundays and in youth/kids spaces
    • Sunday morning engagement in musical worship
    • Understanding, owning, and displaying NGC DNA
    • Creative projects (artist collectives, songs, stage design, etc.) and volunteer involvement
    • Collaboration of songs and sermon for cohesion in Sunday gatherings
    • Leading Sunday liturgy with clarity and creativity to rehearse the gospel week after week

    Reporting Structure & Compensation

    This role reports to the Local Lead Pastor of Summit View. If full time, compensation will be between $50,000-80,000, depending on experience, life needs, and other ministry responsibilities.
