Overview

Editor to lead daily content production for Psychiatry Advisor, a digital publication for psychiatrists and mental health professionals. This role is primarily focused on ideating, assigning, editing, and publishing timely news and in-depth features that highlight key clinical research findings and other critical topics relevant to psychiatric practice. The Editor will join Haymarket’s Medical Communications Group, collaborate with colleagues on our central nervous system vertical (including Neurology Advisor and Sleep-Wake Advisor), and will be based in our New York City office with a hybrid schedule in office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and remote work on Mondays and Fridays.

Salary

Base pay range: $70,000.00/yr - $75,000.00/yr

Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of freelance medical journalists for news and feature content creation
  • Independently creating feature content (e.g., disease overviews, clinician interviews, podcast episodes)
  • Editing and fact-checking, including formatting, ensuring reference accuracy, adherence to AMA style, tagging, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to meet workflows, timelines, and priorities
  • Publishing content in WordPress
  • Collaborating with external teams to ensure content is available for daily newsletters
  • Ensuring SEO through best publishing practices and monitoring growth and performance using analytics tools (Google Analytics)
  • Providing real-time coverage of major medical meetings
  • Overseeing and maintaining editorial budgets

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism/Communications or Biological Sciences; advanced degree and clinical experience desirable; experience in/exposure to psychiatry, neurology, sleep medicine, or related medical specialties preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in medical publishing/communications/advertising, with strong editing and fact-checking skills and proficiency with AMA style
  • Proficient at maintaining a robust volume of content and a steady daily flow of article publication
  • Excellent reading comprehension, listening, analytical, and both oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong teamwork skills with ability to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices, social media, and digital promotional strategies
  • Understanding of the needs of medical professional audiences and experience creating content for health care specialists
