Overview
The Center for Online Innovation and Production (COIP) at the University of Florida is looking for a creative, detail-oriented Web and Graphic Designer to join our production team. In this role, you'll bring ideas to life through web design, graphic design, course templates, and media assets that support high-quality online learning. Your work will directly shape the systems and assets used to create the learner experience for online courses. This position is ideal for a designer who loves combining aesthetic vision with precision—someone who can move fluidly between creating polished graphics, building accessible web pages, and designing user-friendly templates. You'll collaborate with instructional designers, faculty, and production staff to ensure every project is engaging, functional, and on-brand. You will also maintain and refine HTML assets for internal systems and contribute documentation to our internal knowledge base, ensuring smooth workflows and shared design standards across the department.
Opportunity: Reporting to the Assistant Director, this position is responsible for the activities related to the analysis, design, and implementation of websites, graphic designs, and video-related media for course production. They are also responsible for creating and maintaining HTML assets used in the DesignTools system, as well as the preparation, planning, and implementation of documentation in the COIP departmental knowledge base. Responsible for effective communication with stakeholders across the University and within the field of online learning.
Responsibilities
- Web Design & Development: Design and develop accessible, user-friendly websites and course pages.
- Create intuitive UI features and interactive elements using current technologies and multiple content management systems.
- Test for usability and browser/device compatibility, resolve issues, and ensure all work meets or exceeds ADA compliance standards.
- Maintain documentation, troubleshoot problems, and respond to stakeholder questions.
- Graphic & Multimedia Asset Creation: Design templates, graphics, and media for Canvas courses, PowerPoint lectures, and DesignPLUS course shells.
- Develop engaging course visuals, interactive resources, and presentation materials that enhance learning.
- Collaborate with instructional designers and production staff to deliver cohesive, high-quality digital assets.
- Branding & Accessibility: Ensure all visual and technical designs align with UF branding and ADA accessibility standards.
- Create style guides as needed to maintain consistency across projects.
- Contribute to social media content and strategies that strengthen COIP's brand and extend engagement across multiple platforms.
- Peer Review & Feedback: Review design and written content created by colleagues.
- Provide constructive, detailed feedback through project management systems to maintain quality standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an associate's degree and four years of appropriate experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience updating and managing web content in WordPress, T4, as well as knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with the Adobe suite of products, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate smooth interaction and efficient execution of collaborative duties. Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple duties and assignments with a track record of meeting deadlines and working in a fast-paced environment. Strong written communication skills.
Salary & Application Details
Expected Salary: Annual Salary $65,000-$75,000
