Job Description
The Public Services Desk Support is a nighttime public-facing job located in Alden Library. You will work a busy service desk and help students faculty and community members by:
• Providing search assistance for physical and digital materials.
• Providing basic tech assistance with scanning, printing, and computers.
• Answering phone calls and chats.
• Giving directional help.
• Referring questions to librarians, archivists, and specialists.
• Checking library materials in/out.
• Maintaining and organizing library materials and equipment.
After training, you will also be responsible for closing the library at night. This will involve:
• Clearing floors at closing time.
• Checking patron ID during late-night hours
• Securing the building.
• Making closing announcements.
There may also be opportunities to work on special projects with staff members or librarians. Scheduling is flexible with classes, internships, and Ohio University approved activities, but this must be communicated in advance. Nighttime support hours of operation are typically between 8pm-2am, Sunday through Thursday. Total scheduled hours will vary based upon availability, with the goal of 10-12 hours per week. After choosing this job, the student coordinator will reach out to you via your OHIO email about the expectations of the position and when training will begin.
Minimum Qualifications
• Sophomore or above.
• Customer Service experience.
• Ability to work from 8pm to 2am.
• Basic computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with libraries.
• Experience working as part of a team.
