We are seeking a dependable and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Library Circulation Clerk.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Head Circulation Clerk, the Circulation Clerk assists patrons at the circulation desk, supports the daily operations of the library, and ensures positive patron experiences. This role involves a combination of customer service, clerical duties, and basic technical assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned.

  • Issue and update borrower library cards and patron records.

  • Check out and check in library materials, inspect returns for damage, and collect fines and fees.

  • Sort returned and new materials; shelve items and maintain collection order.

  • Notify patrons of reserve material availability.

  • Assist patrons with use of computers and other library equipment.

  • Answer non-professional patron inquiries and refer professional questions to librarians.

  • Answer phones, process mail, and assist with other administrative duties.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. (I-9 compliance).

  • Experience in a library environment preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of computers and word processing software required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and coworkers.

  • Basic math and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.

  • Ability to problem-solve customer service issues.
