The Beekman NYC Library at Pace University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented PT Library Assistant to join our team. Library Assistants play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the library, assisting patrons, and contributing to a welcoming and productive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Position Duties
  • Provide exceptional customer service to library patrons by assisting with check-outs, returns, renewals, and holds.
  • Answer general inquiries related to library services, policies, and procedures.
  • Help patrons locate books, journals, and other materials using the library's catalog and online resources.
  • Organize and shelve books, periodicals, and other library materials according to established classification systems.
  • Maintain the neatness and orderliness of shelves and reading areas, ensuring materials are easy to find and access.
  • Assist patrons with basic technology troubleshooting, including printing, scanning, and using library computers.
  • Monitor computer workstations to ensure they are functioning properly and report technical issues to library staff.
  • Assist library staff in processing new acquisitions, including cataloging, labeling, and preparing materials for circulation.
  • Participate in inventory checks and shelf-reading activities to maintain accurate collection records.
  • Assist with processing interlibrary loan requests, including locating and retrieving requested materials from partner libraries.
  • Prepare outgoing interlibrary loan shipments and maintain records of borrowed and lent items.
  • Regularly monitor and tidy common areas, including study spaces, reading rooms, and seating areas, to ensure a clean and welcoming environment.
  • Enter data accurately into library systems, including patron registration, circulation records, and statistical reports.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Position Qualifications
  • Experience working in a public or academic library.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-service mindset.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in tasks.
  • Basic understanding of library systems and resources (preferred but not required).
  • Comfortable using technology, including library software, computers, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a professional attitude.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.


Work Hours

Up to 14 hours per week, primarily weekday evenings until 11:00 p.m. Specific hours will be determined in consultation with your supervisor.
