Introduction
Do you enjoy turning ideas into impactful stories that inspire community engagement? Prince William Public Libraries’ (PWPL) Office of Communications and Marketing is seeking a communications professional to enhance internal communications, support grant programs, and increase public awareness of library initiatives. This position plays a vital role in connecting staff, stakeholders, and the community with PWPL's mission, services, and programs. The successful candidate will help ensure that Prince William Public Libraries is effectively promoted, partnerships are supported, and staff remain aligned with departmental priorities.

About This Role

As a Communications Analyst with PWPL, you’ll be involved in every aspect of communications and marketing. You’ll design strategies that keep staff informed and engaged, build bridges with County departments and stakeholders, and develop content that promotes library programs and services to the public. You’ll also play a key role in supporting our grant-funded initiatives—helping to craft proposals, coordinate deliverables, and ensure that these initiatives are promoted and celebrated.

Your work will include writing and editing for multiple platforms—press releases, newsletters, social media, web content, annual reports, and more—all while ensuring consistency in PWPL’s tone and brand. You’ll help support media relations and develop key internal and external communications strategies. You’ll also enjoy working alongside a creative, collaborative team that values innovation and community engagement.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or GED and four years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations in either government, nonprofit, or library setting.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
  • Experience developing and implementing internal and external communications strategies that increase engagement and collaboration.
  • Experience with grant writing, reporting, and compliance.
  • Project management / organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in communications tools (email marketing platforms, content management systems, social media scheduling/analytics tools).
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Experience writing, editing, and adapting content for different platforms and audiences (internal staff, community members, and county leadership).
  • Experience supporting leadership with briefings, presentations, and strategic messaging.
  • Experience with the mission, values, and community impact of public service, with a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in communications.

Special Requirements

The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week exempt position located at the Administrative Support Center. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Starting Salary Range

$65,910.00–$79,408.88 / yearly
