Overview
Associate Vice President of Marketing & Communications. The AVP will lead the Marketing and Communications unit, which combines the functions of Media Relations, Multimedia, Strategic Marketing, Social Media and Web Development. The AVP will collaboratively build and manage a communication unit that raises awareness of the College and its distinctive place in higher education, which includes a philanthropic mission and serving as an advisor to other segments of the College. Responsibilities
Lead a collaborative effort to develop and execute a strategic communications and marketing program that enhances the statewide, regional, and national reputation of the College. Assess the communications and marketing needs of the College, including institutional positioning and brand management. Lead all areas of the Marketing and Communications team to include media relations; news distribution; college-wide marketing and advertising plans; Berea College Magazine; video production design and photographic services; and content engagement for the College website, official social media and digital platforms. Collaborate with the Public Safety Office to develop, manage, and implement crisis communication strategies. Provide guidance for the communication strategies of the College, such as divisions, centers and auxiliary units, ensuring consistent implementation of College identity and brand standards. Work with the Vice President for Alumni, Communications and Philanthropy to develop annual MC unit objectives, define metrics, devise and implement strategies to meet them, and review progress annually. Implement sound communications strategies and tools to engage external stakeholders in sustaining the College’s mission and devise creative new strategies as needed. Support Berea College’s commitments through student supervision within the Labor Program, including scheduling, assigning, and approving student work and developing workplace acumen. Other roles and duties may be assigned as necessary to assist the College in achieving its goals and fostering a positive learning environment for staff, faculty and students. What You'll Bring
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in a marketing, communications, or related discipline with Master’s Degree preferred; continuing education and professional involvement encouraged. Experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant marketing and communications experience. At least five (5) years in a strategic leadership role with a track record of developing and leading communications and/or marketing teams. Demonstrated project-management experience with strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills including strong written and oral communication; experience with public presentations and digital communications is critical. Proven success in building and leading a high-performing team. Special skills, knowledge and abilities
Ability to communicate Berea College’s unique mission and Great Commitments to external audiences. Experience in strategic planning and tactical project implementation. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and initiate projects. Curiosity, openness to inquiry, commitment to social justice, and willingness to challenge stereotypes. Collaborative leadership to inspire cooperation across the College and with external partners. Support for Berea students via involvement in the Labor Program. Ability to collaborate with auxiliary units including the Boone Tavern Hotel, Student Crafts, Admissions, and the College Farm and Forest. Flexibility to learn new skills and adapt to changes in marketing and communications, especially in social and digital media. Comfort with data-informed decision making and using data to guide performance. Ability to connect with faculty, staff, and students across the College campus and beyond in a collaborative style. Must be capable of traveling independently by car or plane. Environmental conditions
