The role focuses on improving accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of eligibility systems, and requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.

Responsibilities

• Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
• Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
• Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure design decisions align with business objectives.
• Employ a comprehensive suite of tools including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar; implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
• Design interfaces for systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, with emphasis on explainable AI (XAI) and human–AI interaction principles.
• Design for complex systems with consideration of regulatory requirements in domains such as government services, healthcare, or finance.
• Present data and AI insights using clear visuals and appropriate data visualization techniques.
• Advocate for user-centered design principles through empathy and effective collaboration with stakeholders.
• Ensure accessibility by applying WCAG and other accessibility guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum Requirements: Years of experience and required skills as stated in the job listing (see below).
• Hands-on experience designing user interfaces and experiences for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards.
• Experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces.
• Experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions.
• Experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, HCI, Computer Science, or related field (Equivalent experience may be substituted).
• Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work efforts.
