Overview

This is a non-exempt position, which is routine clerical work in connection with the City's library operations.

Part-Time Position. No greater than 24 hours per week. Work Schedule: Monday 4-8pm, Wednesday 4-8pm, Thursday 4-8pm, and Saturdays 10am-2pm.

Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Responsibilities

  • Assists at circulation desk on selection of books, periodicals and materials; checks-out books and other materials.
  • Assists patrons at the circulation desk, process and shelve library materials, and assist professional employees in library work.
  • Assists in the general daily upkeep of the library’s appearance in order to maintain a welcoming and organized environment.
  • Uses Library automation system to locate and circulate materials, return materials, issue and update library cards.
  • Assists at Circulation Desk, Reference Desk, and the Children’s Room, as well as at various Library programs and events.
  • Assists in processing of Library materials.
  • Files books on shelves.
  • Mends books as directed.
  • Performs various light clerical duties as required.
  • Assists patrons with public access computers.
  • This position does not have final procurement authority.
  • Performs related work as required and as directed.

Qualifications

  • Some knowledge of library practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and procedures.
  • Knowledge of clerical routine and operation of standard office equipment and library equipment, including basic office computer skills.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and the operation of standard office and library equipment, including basic office computer skills.
  • Ability to work the circulation desk in checking out and processing returned books and other library material.
  • Ability to greet library patrons; provide information and assist patrons with retrieving information on computers.
  • Ability to assist patrons with public access computers.
  • Ability to perform routine library clerical duties such as file books on shelves; file catalog cards; type registration cards; mend books, etc.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions and complete work assignments correctly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and library patrons.

Desirable Experience and Training

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school graduation; some experience in library work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Work is performed in a library environment.
