Overview

We are looking for someone who understands users' needs, desires, and behaviors. You think strategically when solving business objectives, advocating for user needs and know how to deliver value incrementally. You drive UX and UI design for new features, capabilities, and products, and are comfortable talking high-level needs with stakeholders, discussing functionality with developers, and sharing feedback/opinions with team members. You understand accessibility and deploy best practices at every stage. Design systems, user patterns, and documentation are your daily practices.

Essential Duties

  • User Research: Conduct user research to understand user needs, behaviors, and pain points. Use methods such as user interviews, surveys, and usability tests.
  • Design Strategy: Support and implement UX strategies for sites and products that align with business goals. User Needs: Develop user journey maps, empathy maps, and user personas to better understand and address user needs.
  • Wireframing and Prototyping: Create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to visualize and test design concepts.
  • Usability Testing: Conduct regular usability tests to identify areas for improvement and validate design decisions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with UX designers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure the design vision is implemented.
  • Accessibility: Implement accessibility best practices at every stage of the design process following WCAG guidelines.
  • Design Systems: Use, maintain, and extend design systems, user patterns, and documentation to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest UX/UI trends and best practices to continuously improve our design processes and outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Web, User Experience or Comm Design, Information Studies or related. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 4 years of experience in user experience / user interface design or related design work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Competencies

  • Expertise in Figma, Sketch, or InVision and other design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience conducting user research
  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager, Craft, Drupal, or Wordpress content management systems
  • Solid understanding of experience design principles, best practices, and UX laws
  • Strong prioritization, planning and time management skills
  • Experience with Monday.com, Confluence, SharePoint, or other collaboration platforms
  • Solid understanding of WCAG 2.0
  • Demonstrated understanding of user experience and user interface design

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Sitting: Prolonged periods of time
  • Standing: Prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity: Work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
