Overview
The Dayton Daily News is seeking an All Media Journalist to join our fast-paced newsroom in serving the readers of the greater Dayton area. We are looking for a journalist who can write breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories, take photos, shoot video and contribute to branded social media accounts. You'll work in a digital newsroom, telling digital stories in a myriad of ways while centering our audiences. This reporter will join our platform team of reporters and AMJs in the Dayton newsroom and will cover several local communities and topics as needed.
Responsibilities
- Write breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories.
- Take photos and shoot video; contribute to branded social media accounts.
- Work in a digital newsroom to tell digital stories in multiple formats while centering the audience.
- Cover several local communities and topics as needed as part of the platform team.
Qualifications
- Excellent reporting and writing skills.
- Ability to leverage digital storytelling skills tailored to the story and audience.
- Ability to write and edit quickly for digital publication.
- Use research to tailor stories for digital audiences.
- Knack for telling stories in a relatable and compelling way.
- Ability to shoot compelling photos and video on a smartphone.
- Demonstrated social media presence that shows the ability to engage with readers.
- Familiar with standards for avoiding libel and slander; good grasp of Ohio public records laws.
- Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment and commitment to ongoing learning.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years' related experience. The right candidate could have combinations such as a higher degree/certification with 3 years' experience, or 7 years' related experience.
- A portfolio showing reporting and writing with some ability to shoot video and photos, and use social media to gather and transmit information.
- Genuine interest in storytelling of all kinds.
- Work is expected to be accurate, complete, and meet deadlines.

Compensation:
Hourly base pay rate is $19.57 - $29.38/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission and/or an incentive program.
Benefits:
Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
