Overview

The Dayton Daily News is seeking an All Media Journalist to join our fast-paced newsroom in serving the readers of the greater Dayton area. We're looking for a journalist who can write breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories, take photos, shoot video and contribute to branded social media accounts. You'll work in a digital newsroom, telling digital stories in a myriad of ways while centering our audiences. This reporter will join our platform team of reporters and AMJs in the Dayton newsroom and will cover several local communities and topics as needed.

Responsibilities

• Write breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories.
• Take photos and shoot video; contribute to branded social media accounts.
• Work in a digital newsroom and tell digital stories in a variety of formats while centering our audiences.
• Collaborate with the platform team of reporters and AMJs in the Dayton newsroom and cover several local communities and topics as needed.

Qualifications

• Excellent reporting and writing skills.
• Ability to leverage digital storytelling skills that best fit the story and the audience.
• Ability to write and edit quickly for digital.
• Use research to tailor stories to fit the audience for digital.
• Knack for telling stories in a relatable and compelling way.
• Ability to shoot compelling photos and video on a smartphone.
• Demonstrated social media presence showing the ability to engage with readers.
• Familiar and comfortable with standards for avoiding libel and slander; good grasp of Ohio's public records laws.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment and be committed to learning throughout their career.

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma/GED and 5 years' experience in a related field, or equivalent with different combination (e.g., degree/certification beyond HS with 3 years, or 7 years of related experience).
• A portfolio of work showing reporting, writing, and some ability to shoot video and photos and use social media to convey information.
• Genuine interest in storytelling of all kinds.
• Work is expected to be accurate, complete, and meet deadlines.

USD 19.57 - 29.38 per hour

Compensation

Hourly base pay rate is $19.57 - $29.38/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission and/or an incentive program.

Benefits

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Additional paid time off options include bereavement leave, voting leave, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
