Cox is hiring: Community All Media Journalist, Cox First Media in Bath Township

Overview

The Dayton Daily News is seeking an All Media Journalist to join our fast-paced newsroom in serving the readers of the greater Dayton area. We're looking for a journalist who can write breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories, take photos, shoot video and contribute to branded social media accounts. You'll work in a digital newsroom, telling digital stories in a myriad of ways while centering our audiences. This reporter will join our platform team of reporters and AMJs in the Dayton newsroom and will cover several local communities and topics as needed.

Responsibilities

• Write breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories.
• Take photos and shoot video; contribute to branded social media accounts.
• Work in a digital newsroom to tell digital stories in various formats while centering audiences.
• Collaborate with the platform team of reporters and All Media Journalists in the Dayton newsroom; cover multiple local communities and topics as needed.

Qualifications

Core requirements:

• Excellent reporting and writing skills.
• Ability to leverage digital storytelling skills to best fit the story and the audience.
• Ability to write and edit quickly for digital platforms.
• Use research to tailor stories to fit the audience for digital.
• Knack for telling stories in a relatable and compelling way.
• Ability to shoot compelling photos and video on a smartphone.
• Demonstrated social media presence showing ability to engage with readers.
• Familiar and comfortable with standards for avoiding libel and slander, and a good grasp of Ohio's public records laws.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment and commitment to learning throughout their career.

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma/GED and 5 years' experience in a related field, or alternative combinations such as any level degree/certification beyond HS with 3 years' experience, or 7 years' experience in a related field.
• A portfolio showing reporting, writing and some ability to shoot video/photos and use social media to gather and transmit information.
• Genuine interest in storytelling of all kinds.
• Work is expected to be accurate and complete and to meet deadlines.

Compensation: USD 19.57 - 29.38 per hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on location and the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commissions or incentive programs.

Benefits: Employees are eligible for a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off per month and seven paid holidays per year, plus additional paid time off such as bereavement, voting leave, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
