As Design Director of Fashion for Denim at Walmart, you will be responsible for creating designs exclusively for Private Brands and developing trend strategies that support the Walmart Apparel Strategic Business Unit (SBU) merchandising goals. You will ensure Walmart’s private brand DNA/guidelines, trends, aesthetic/style, quality and value align with customer needs and lead the market. You will set the brand’s seasonal fashion direction and coordinate with broader Walmart strategies. You’ll help ensure merchant leadership is aligned with the creative direction and assortment. You enjoy building and developing private brand design strategy and execution, supporting long term business plans and executing prioritized strategic programs. You understand how to build a winning brand aesthetic and DNA/guardrails. You are data savvy: you can analyze competition, customer behavior, industry trends, and the macro environment. You are omni-channel customer-focused: you can develop and execute a strategic vision with a customer-centric approach across channels. You are tenacious, dedicated and thrive working with ownership, autonomy, and a healthy dose of competition. Responsibilities
Brand Execution: Oversee all aspects of the brand including brand management, design, merchandising analytics, and storytelling. Lead the design vision, execution and identify of each brand, ensuring the merchant strategy and brand guidelines are followed to ensure a consistent design aesthetic on the floor and online. Responsible for translating the vision into a product by utilizing appropriate materials and a supply base to execute the collection. Collaborate with Product Development and Sourcing on supplier matrix, direct imports, pricing, and supplier relations. Partner with marketing and brand services to ensure cohesive brand execution across packaging and communications. Merchandising Differentiation: Understand the competitive landscape, develop competitive advantages, and adapt to the omni-retail environment. Continuously offer new experiences to grow Walmart’s market share and customer retention. Leadership Partnerships: Work with other Senior Leaders to align brand collections and strategy with other business unit strategies. Collaborate with omni Merchandising Operations to achieve objectives. Talent Development: In partnership with People Partner, develop a talent strategy for teams, enabling associate development and career growth while maintaining a high-performance culture. Customer Experience: Deliver Walmart-exclusive brand experiences across channels by offering private label collections of high-quality, high-value products. Aim for increased sales, conversion and satisfaction. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field 10+ years of experience in apparel design, with deep expertise in denim Proven leadership experience managing design teams Strong eye for trend, proportion, fabric, and wash development Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills Experience with global sourcing and vendor networks Ability to balance creativity with business objectives in a high-volume retail environment Portfolio Required.
