Our client, a successful apparel company, is looking for a Layette (Baby) Designer to join their team in NYC!


Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of seasonal collections, aligning with the manager’s creative vision.
  • Design across multiple categories—including knits and wovens—while building cohesive collections for internal and external presentations.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed technical packages for the Technical Design team.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring accuracy throughout all stages of development.
  • Manage timelines to meet design deadlines and keep data entry organized and up to date.
  • Review and approve fabric, trim, and color submissions from factories.
  • Communicate effectively to resolve product development challenges as they arise.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, collaborating closely with internal partners.
  • Take direction well and apply constructive feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Conduct market research and competitive shopping to identify price points, assortment gaps, and new opportunities.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in product design and development, ideally within the NB–TOD size range.
  • Strong technical knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, and finishing.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to balance multiple projects.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional integrity, adaptability, and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Senior Designer or higher in children’s sleepwear.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor a team.
  • Strong fashion sense and in-depth product knowledge specific to sleepwear.
  • Skilled presenter and communicator with a creative eye for building collections.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically build lines and drive business growth.
