Overview
Montgomery College is seeking three (3) Communication Studies full-time faculty members to start in January 2026. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Our Communication Studies faculty teach in one of the highest-enrolled Associate of Arts degree programs at the college, with more than 350 majors. The program has a history of preparing students for transfer to four-year institutions and offers an interdisciplinary Certificate in Business Communication. Communication serves degree and transfer programs as a popular elective and a direct requirement in various programs. We are seeking full-time Communication Studies faculty members who are committed to student success and excellence in teaching.
Responsibilities
- Teach 30 semester hours per academic year of various communications courses including foundations of human communication, public relations, business and professional speech communication, introduction to communication theory and inquiry, and journalism at any MC location. Incorporate Blackboard and other relevant technology into instruction.
- Maintain a varied teaching schedule that may include day, night, early morning, weekend, and/or accelerated sections; opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
- Coordinate with other faculty to create common assignments for multiple-section courses, select textbooks, and develop Open Educational Resources and other instructional materials.
- Participate in the department’s assessment of student learning at the course, program, and institutional level and contribute to ongoing curricular improvements.
- Engage students with culturally relevant, active, and collaborative learning approaches.
- Meet with students outside of class to support their success and connect them to campus-support services.
- Advise students about program curriculum, transfer options, and careers in communication fields.
- Serve on or lead department, discipline, campus, and college committees.
- Maintain an active program of professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities.
- Promote student success by contributing to higher retention, transfer, and graduation rates and supporting an equitable and inclusive learning environment for diverse students.
- Assist in marketing and promotion of the program by participating in college events and visiting local businesses and schools.
Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Communication Studies with emphasis in public speaking, small group communication, business communication, and intercultural communication.
- College-level teaching experience in communication studies.
- Demonstrated ability to use an educational enterprise platform such as Blackboard in instructional delivery.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

- A Ph.D. in Communication Studies, Human Communication, or a closely related field.
- Expertise in interpersonal communication, small group communication, public speaking, and intercultural communication.
- Experience supporting students with varying levels of preparedness for college work.
- Experience teaching a diverse population that includes native and non-native English speakers.
- Commitment to student success, including increasing retention, transfer, and graduation rates.
- Experience integrating technology into course delivery to enhance student learning.
- Experience developing open educational resources as an instructional tool.
- Experience assessing student learning outcomes.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Hiring Range
$63,254 - $96,299
