Overview

Graphic Design and Multimedia Project Specialist from the University of New Mexico, located in Albuquerque, NM (University Hts area). This role requires a Bachelor Degree and involves graphic design, multimedia production, and project management on the University Communications & Marketing (UCAM) team to support UNM’s brand across multiple mediums.

Job Description

The position combines graphic design expertise, photography/videography and/or animation skills, and project management capabilities. The selected candidate will create visual content, manage creative projects, and collaborate with UNM’s marketing team and university partners to produce marketing and visual communications for diverse audiences including prospective students, current students, alumni, and others. Projects include digital advertisements, printed publications, brand photography, portrait sessions, environmental branding, templates, and sub-brand guides. The role may manage projects from concept to completion, including discovery, marketing research, printing, installation, or launch. The role reports to the University Creative Services Manager and is co-managed by the Assistant Director of Marketing Communications for Enrollment Management. This position is on-site within UCAM, with collaboration among design, media production, and marketing professionals. Normal hours are standard business hours, with some nights and weekends as needed.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and executes a wide range of specialized graphic/illustrative and marketing materials, including multimedia concepts; writes and edits marketing or creative copy.
  • Executes or assists with visual media projects such as event photography or videography, brand photography or videography, portrait photography, and other related work.
  • Distills complex information into appealing, audience-appropriate visuals.
  • Builds proposals for clients and projects, presents concepts, and develops projects through completion.
  • Delivers materials within UNM’s established brand style and targeted campaigns.
  • May create and produce digital content using video or animated graphics.
  • Participates in the design of video graphics, titles, and the creative look of multimedia assets; makes editorial decisions on assembly of content.
  • Uses independent judgment to manage information for a range of clients and media sources.
  • Identifies, selects, and coordinates vendors for printing and publication services; provides print-ready files to vendors and clients.
  • Proofs content and supports proofing for production standards.
  • Completes post-production editing of photo files.
  • Applies knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and resources.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degrees from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work in an integrated marketing communications team environment with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact well with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population in a professional manner and build positive working relationships across campus and within UCAM.

  • Ability to manage concurrent projects;
  • Strong graphic design and visual media production skills, knowledge of current trends, and content development strategies;
  • Excellent communication, writing, strategic thinking, and planning skills with strong problem-solving abilities;
  • Demonstrated project management expertise, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines;
  • Accomplishments in other multimedia skills including photography;
  • Motivation and a strong desire to advance The University of New Mexico;
  • Ownership of work and deadlines; accountability;
  • Passion for work and results-driven attitude.
