Overview
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seeks a full-time clinical Low Vision Optometrist. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience. Some pediatric care may be provided at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide eye care for adults coping with vision impairment due to conditions such as macular degeneration, albinism, retinitis pigmentosa, and optic atrophy, among others.
- Deliver clinical services as part of a faculty role, with or without a trainee, and participate in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.
- Support the academic mission by pursuing research, quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and education initiatives in coordination with the Department Chair; supervise and advise medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners as appropriate.
- Provide clinical service at OSUWMC facilities and other assigned sites; participate in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions; engage with local, regional, or national professional organizations as appropriate.
Requirements
- Graduate of a United States-accredited School of Optometry and NBEO exam completion.
- Residency training in low vision rehabilitation is required.
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a current, full, unrestricted license to practice optometry in the State of Ohio.
- Excellent clinical skills with demonstrated commitment to scholarship, research, and education; experience with resident, fellow, and student education is desired.
- Effective communication with peers, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
