Overview
UNICEF vacancy: Consultant – UX/UI Product Designer. Division: Division of Communication and Advocacy (GCA), Digital Strategy Section – NYHQ. Duration: October 8, 2025 to September 29, 2026. Home/Office Based: NYHQ/Remote. The Product Designer will enable UNICEF’s Digital Governance and Platforms Team to offer clear and engaging web products by crafting, testing, and enhancing the features available on UNICEF’s web platform.
Responsibilities
The Product Designer will tackle design-specific tasks assigned and estimated during regular sprint planning sessions, in coordination with the Product Owner and Design Lead, using our Agile Project Management Methodology. This consultancy will create and support the integration of an A/B testing framework into UNICEF\'s UX/UI design process. Tasks include:
- Participate in Sprint Planning and Sprint Demo sessions; handover in Figma with notations for Product, Design, and Development teams.
- Develop and support UI/UX design for UNICEF design system and Drupal-based platforms; contribute to the development of intuitive and accessible interfaces.
- Work with a team in Valencia, Spain; ensure overlap in working hours.
- Deliver design concepts, functional prototypes, and final design specifications for UI elements within the UNICEF Design System using Figma.
Deliverables and Outputs per Sprint:
- Sprint Planning: attend sessions, refine and estimate tasks, commit to ~8 user stories per sprint (approx. 7 hours per story).
- A/B Testing: develop approach, plan and execute tests, share insights and recommendations.
- Design and Prototyping: high-fidelity concepts and prototypes, documentation and handovers, accessibility and branding compliance.
- UNICEF Design System: update components and library, implement design system roadmap and enhancements based on A/B outcomes.
- Documentation: annotated Figma files with interaction details for implementation.
Phases:
- This scope is Phase I of a potentially broader assignment with additional phases and deliverables over an extended period.
Scope and Tools
Work within 18 Design Sprints to deliver UI elements, with work created in Figma and integrated into the Drupal enterprise system. Sessions include sprint planning, demos, and daily collaboration with Product Owner and Design Lead.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design (web, UX/UI, product, user experience, graphic) or related fields.
- Alternative: An unrelated Bachelor’s Degree with an additional two years of relevant UX/UI experience.
Knowledge/Skills
- 5+ years of relevant design experience (web, UX/UI, product, user experience, graphic).
- Strong digital portfolio demonstrating UX/UI design.
- Strong communication and presentation skills; proven ability to create intuitive and accessible interfaces for large web platforms.
- Proficiency with product design tools; ability to work with design systems and collaboration with product teams.
Requirements
- Completed profile in UNICEF\'s e-Recruitment system.

- Financial proposal detailing costs per deliverable and total lump-sum (in US$), travel costs and daily subsistence if applicable, other estimated costs (visa, health insurance, living costs), and availability.
- UNICEF covers emergent/duty travel; selected candidate must have health insurance coverage.
- Payment of professional fees based on satisfactory deliverables; withholding possible for delays or subpar deliverables.
