Overview

POSITION TITLE: CONTENT CREATOR - COMMUNICATIONS

Purpose: The Content Creator supports the Albuquerque Public Schools by helping create and edit engaging visual, audio, and written content that strengthens the district's image and promotes positive relationships with the community. Working under the direction of the Multimedia Manager, the Content Creator assists with photography, writing, video production, graphic design, and content organization to deliver high-quality multimedia materials for websites, social media, presentations, and other communication channels.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in planning, producing, and editing multimedia content—including video, photography, written stories, graphics, motion graphics, and animations—for digital and print platforms
  • Capture high-quality video and photography at district events, programs, and activities
  • Edit raw photos and footage into polished content optimized for platforms such as social media, websites, broadcast, and presentations
  • Write compelling and accurate stories for the website and other communication channels
  • Collaborate with the Multimedia Manager to develop content aligned with district brand standards for web, email, social media, and print
  • Support district administration by creating slide decks and facilitating the production of multilingual flyers that meet brand standards
  • Create and assist with graphic design and layout for various print and digital materials

Duties

  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, APS employee handbook, employment contract and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals
  • Maintains professional competence through District mandated, individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within areas of responsibility
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Experience

  • Ability to organize and maintain multimedia assets and archives for easy access and efficient workflow
  • Ability to assist in creating digital billboards and other targeted visual displays
  • Ability to help produce short-form social media videos such as reels and YouTube Shorts
  • Ability to monitor social media trends to inform content creation and engagement strategies
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot multimedia equipment to support ongoing production needs
  • Ability to recommend new tools and technologies to improve multimedia production quality and efficiency
  • Ability to write clear, concise captions, scripts, and multimedia-related copy to support content goals
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all multimedia work
  • Flexible problem-solver who adapts quickly in a fast-paced production environment
  • Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and engage diverse audiences
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, trends, and audience engagement, with the ability to create compelling multimedia content optimized for each platform
  • Strong writing skills to craft clear, concise stories, captions, scripts, and multimedia-related copy
  • Ability to learn and teach new multimedia tools and techniques

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
  • Minimum of two years of multimedia experience or equivalent work-related experience demonstrating proficiency
  • Experience creating multimedia content for social media, websites, and other platforms
  • Proficient in video editing, photo editing, and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Skilled in capturing quality video and photography in a variety of settings
  • Able to operate and maintain multimedia equipment such as cameras, lighting, and audio gear
  • Capable of editing raw footage and photos into polished, platform-appropriate content
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately
