Monmouth University is seeking applications for On-Call Radio Dispatchers in the University Police department.
The candidate would be expected to: receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police and fire service, emergency ambulance service, information and after hours calls; determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures; relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification.
This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures.
- Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages.
- Question callers to determine their locations, and the nature of their problems in order to determine the type of response needed.
- Enter, update, and retrieve information from teletype networks and computerized data systems regarding such things as wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles.
- Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification.
- Receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police and fire service, emergency ambulance service, information and after hours calls.
- Maintain access to, and security of, highly sensitive materials.
- Maintain files of information relating to emergency calls such as personnel rosters, and emergency call-out and pager files.
- Operate base radio for 2-way communications with Police and Facilities Management personnel
- Monitor transmissions from Monmouth County Radio and scanners from adjacent Police Departments.
- Issue parking decals and other permits.
- Record vehicle registration/information into the database.
- Obtain “look ups” from county and state computer systems.
- Monitor the computerized 911, fire and security alarm systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Ability to complete Dispatch Desk reports and other related reports.
- Must be reliable, able to monitor several radios and telephones concurrently, remain calm under pressure and be able to communicate effectively with students, employees and the general public.
- Willingness to work on University holidays and to work overtime when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Radio dispatch experience
- Knowledge of MS Office
