Overview
Part-time Reference Librarian at Inside Higher Ed | Location: Clayton State University. Regular, part-time position with a schedule that may include Sundays (2-6PM) and weekday evenings (6-10PM) as classes are in session each semester. Average about 12 hours per week, not more than 19.5 hours. Schedule may change based on department needs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain information desk during scheduled peak times to assist students, faculty, and staff with information retrieval.
- Assist with research questions, circulation of library technology items, basic computer assistance, monitor study rooms for policy compliance, copier/print services, and respond to general directional questions related to the university.
- Provide general supervision and basic training to student assistant employees who may be working during the same shift.
- Participate in collection development activities under the direction of liaison librarians.
- Familiarity with Springshare modules including LibGuides, LibChat, and LibCal; update and maintain LibGuide information as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master of Library Science (MLS, MIS, or MLIS) or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited university or international equivalent.
- Strong broad-based knowledge of print and electronic information sources.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Springshare products (e.g., LibCal, LibGuides, LibChat).
- Familiarity with a library management system (e.g., Alma, Folio).
- Experience troubleshooting basic computer or printing issues.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrate strong service ethics and the ability to effectively work with faculty, staff, students, and library personnel at all levels.
- Ability to lift at least 10 pounds.
- Self-directed, well organized, able to set priorities, and able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
