Tenure-Track: Assistant Professor – Latino/a Literature and Culture

The Department of English, in the College of Arts and Sciences, at Texas A&M University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track, 9-month appointments as Assistant Professor of Latino/a Literature and Culture to begin in Fall 2026. One position will be focused on Texas or the Southwest, and the other on transnational approaches. We welcome all qualified candidates who conduct research in Latino/a literature and culture, regionally or transnationally, and who have additional teaching competencies in environmental humanities. Candidates who can help build departmental strengths in health humanities, disability studies, and/or environmental humanities are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda, contributing to the department’s teaching mission (standard teaching load is 2 courses per semester), and fulfilling service duties at the departmental, university, and disciplinary levels.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary programs and centers affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences, including Africana Studies, Digital Humanities, Latino/a and Mexican-American Studies, and Women’s & Gender Studies. Texas A&M University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a First-Gen Forward institution. The department also engages with the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research and the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute (RESI).

These positions are part of a cluster hire supported by the Mellon Foundation. Hired faculty are appointed in their home departments and contribute to the interdisciplinary environmental undergraduate program and the Environmental and Sustainability Initiative and RESI. In the first three years, hires may be identified as “Mellon-RESI Scholar.” This initiative supports a collaborative community of scholars across the humanities addressing environmental issues in borderland communities in Texas and beyond.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, American Studies, or a related field; evidence of teaching experience; and a strong publication record.

Application materials should be uploaded to Interfolio: apply.interfolio.com/172926 and include:
