Position Summary
The Media Technician manages the day-to-day operations in the Heather MacDonald Greene Multimedia Center (HMGMC). This position provides students and faculty drop-in software support and assistance with video production, graphic design, photo editing, audio production, 3D rendering and printing, and basic computer literacy to users at all skill levels. The Media Technician supervises the HMGMC student employees and directly oversees student employee hardware, software and customer service training and evaluation. The Technician may assist with joint activities in collaboration with other university departments hosted in the HMGMC. The Technician shares responsibility for the creation of a variety of promotional and educational materials that reflect the values and objectives of Kent Library and Southeast Missouri State University.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support HMGMC users from a range of skill levels on the effective use of multimedia equipment and software including production, editing, design, and print.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the HMGMC, including occasional evening and weekend service hours.
- Train, schedule, and supervise the HMGMC student employees.
- Increase awareness of the HMGMC services and resources through engaged interactions with Southeast Missouri State University students, faculty, and staff.
- Assist the Media Specialist in developing and implementing multimedia training materials in the form of in-class assistance, digital content creation, and technical support.
- Design and/or update library signage, website, and marketing materials.
- Plan and create social media posts for Kent Library and the HMGMC.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of excellent customer service
- Strong experience with Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience using Windows, Mac and tablet-based operating systems
- Experience instructing others on the use of software and hardware
- Familiarity with 3D modeling and printing
- Strong written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team or independently, with minimal supervision
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift 30 pounds with or without accommodations
