Public Services Librarian

Spring/Early Summer 2026

The Fresno State Library seeks an innovative, flexible, and public service-oriented individual to join our faculty in developing and providing user-focused library services that support teaching, research, and student success. This full-time, tenure-track librarian will serve as the subject librarian for the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. This position will provide an excellent opportunity for professional growth and for those interested in collaborating to develop services to meet the needs of a diverse campus community.

Primary responsibilities include: collaborating with colleagues in developing and providing a broad range of services and activities to designated departments; teaching information literacy concepts to undergraduates and graduate students; designing and creating outreach and instructional materials; providing in-person and online research assistance in a range of disciplines; participating in collection management; and promoting knowledge of scholarly communication and Fresno State’s digital repository.

Librarians are active participants in the shared governance of the library and in the academic life of the campus. The successful candidate will be a member of the library faculty and will be expected to meet all of the requirements for retention, tenure and promotion, including scholarship and service to the campus and the community. Tenure-track librarians receive an official probationary plan, mentoring, and professional development funding.

Qualifications

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):

  • An MLS from an ALA accredited library school/institution (or equivalent) is required.
  • Applicants nearing completion of the MLS degree may be considered; however, degree must be completed prior to hire date. Anticipated start date is Spring/Early Summer 2026.

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with instruction, information literacy, and student learning outcomes.
  • Documentation of strong public service orientation, and knowledge of or experience with reference service and research consultation.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with trends in librarianship and scholarly communication.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working in an academic library environment.
  • Subject knowledge of or experience in K-12 teaching and/or educational leadership and/or administration.
  • Experience with design and delivery of instruction using a range of modalities, approaches, and technologies, for undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Proficiency in multiple modes of reference service and research consultation including in-person, chat, and phone/video conferencing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a complex, changing environment.
  • Experience with outreach programs and services.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and scholarship.
