The freight rail network is a vital link in national and global supply chains. Your work at HDR will contribute to critical infrastructure for the movement of goods and people, from traditional railroad structures to projects that redefine freight mobility.

Primary Responsibilities
Apply structural engineering techniques and procedures related to the design of bridges, structures, retaining walls and supporting facilities for various freight railroad clients.
Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a Professional Engineer to check drawings and calculations, develop material lists and quantities, and review construction submittals, using structural design software.
Participate in rail bridge and structure assessments.
Assist with development of project deliverables, including calculations, design plans, cost estimates, specifications, and feasibility reports.
Develop an interest in and knowledge of the railroad industry and regularly interact with clients and other rail industry professionals.
Collaborate with Project Engineers and Managers to gain experience toward professional engineering licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
EIT or ability to obtain EIT certification; candidates hired without EIT will have the title of "Rail Bridge Designer" until certification is obtained.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAD, and design software for layout and design.
Intern or professional experience in transportation-related civil design (e.g., roadway, rail, or transit).
Interest in the freight railroad industry.
Strong understanding and experience with engineering software packages.
Local candidates with the ability to travel to field assignments or project walkthroughs as needed.
Required Qualifications
Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and knowledge of engineering software such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
Bentley OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk InfraWorks and Civil 3D.
Strong understanding and hands-on use of computers for structural layout and design.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
