Overview The Organizational Development & Communications Specialist will assist with the daily functions of the Tax Office, supporting the implementation of communication goals, and coordinating public information, media relations, and internal training.

Responsibilities

Assist with field inquiries from the media, public, and professional community as needed.

Act as spokesperson for the Tax Office when requested.

Assist with all aspects of media relations.

Promote the department in the community.

Draft and develop news releases, editorials, brochures, workbooks, informational publications, reports, bulletins, PowerPoint and video productions, and website communications.

Organize and perform special research and other projects.

Write scripts and speeches.

Provide public information regarding the Tax Office and facilitate media requests for information and interviews.

Arrange news conferences and interviews, and strategically schedule media meetings to keep the media informed.

Serve as a resource for staff, constituents, and the public on Tax Office issues.

Develop, design, and produce print and video materials and publications for internal and external communications.

Maintain knowledge of skills, processes, and best practices in the area of responsibility.

Assist or train lower‑level staff or interns as needed.

Direct the work of clerical and support staff.

Coordinate or assist with internal training sessions, employee recognition activities, and initiatives to strengthen internal communications and morale.

Track the effectiveness of communications through analytics, surveys, and post‑training evaluations, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to articulate information and speak to groups of people.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Competency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite.

Advanced analytical skills.

Highly developed communication skills with adherence to Associated Press Stylebook guidelines.

Proficiency with computer graphics software, photography, and video.

Experience with spreadsheet and word‑processing software or specialized applications.

Cooperative work style with various Tax Office departments, media representatives, support staff, city and county officials, and investigators.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Two (2) full‑time years of experience in property tax and motor vehicle services.

One (1) full‑time year of experience writing and publishing public communications.

Preferred Requirements

One (1) full‑time year of supervisory experience.

Ability to develop, coordinate, and facilitate training and professional development activities.

Six (6) full‑time months of money handling experience.

One (1) full‑time year of experience creating and publishing video content.
