About Teaching & Learning Alliance
Teaching & Learning Alliance, Inc. is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for PreK-12 students by investing in the professional growth of the educators who serve them.
Originally founded 35 years ago as the Center for Applied Child Development (CACD) within Tufts University, the organization became an independent nonprofit in 2010, rebranding as Teaching & Learning Alliance (TLA). TLA’s approach to professional learning centers the unique strengths, culture, and context of each client to engage and build the capacity of PreK-12 teachers, instructional coaches, school leaders, and district administrators who lead and sustain improvement initiatives. Our multi-year partnerships involve a range of services from system-level strategic planning to cohort-based or individual, job-embedded coaching.
Whether our work is at the classroom, system, or state level, TLA’s goal remains unchanged: to effect meaningful and lasting change that yields increased opportunity and positive learning outcomes for all students, irrespective of background, identity, or zip code.
About the Position
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director, Engagement & Communications plays a dual role: building and sustaining relationships with district and state leaders to generate new business, while shaping and sharing the organization’s story through compelling, strategic communications.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the PreK–12 education landscape, including federal and state priorities, emerging policy shifts, and trends shaping the professional learning market. They bring both a national lens and local insight to their work, recognizing the complexity and diversity of school systems across the country.
This person leads with the authenticity, empathy, and dependability that come with a relationship-first orientation. They bring a strategic lens and hands-on approach to partnership development, outreach, and brand storytelling. Depending on a candidate’s expertise, this role may also include opportunities to design or facilitate professional learning for partners.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, qualify, and cultivate new leads among school districts and educational organizations.
Manage the full sales pipeline from initial outreach through contract execution.
Utilize HubSpot to track and report on a weighted sales pipeline and performance metrics.

Collaborate with program staff to develop customized proposals aligned to district needs, including responses to RFPs.
Represent TLA in ways that uphold our reputation for quality, reliability, transparency, and partnership.
Attend, exhibit, and present at conferences, regional convenings, and events to expand visibility and cultivate new relationships.
Occasionally design and/or facilitate professional learning sessions, based on individual expertise and organizational needs.
Communications, Content, & Marketing
Lead development of compelling, mission-aligned content (e.g., blog posts, case studies, newsletters, presentation materials, success stories).
Collaborate with internal staff and partners to highlight organizational impact and educator voices.
Develop communication strategies to grow awareness, reach new audiences, and strengthen TLA’s brand.
Maintain brand voice, tone, and consistency across all digital and print materials.
Manage updates to the TLA website (e.g., posting blogs, updating staff bios, adding service descriptions).
Oversee social media strategy and content planning (without necessarily managing daily posting).
Use analytics and audience insights to inform content creation and outreach.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in sales, partnership development, or marketing, ideally in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven sectors.
Demonstrated success in sales of professional learning or educational services to districts, schools, or educational organizations.
