Overview
Senior Substation Designer - Inventor role at Black & Veatch. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team contributes senior lead engineering technician work and develops complex design concepts using engineering principles and established design practices. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and advanced experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS). Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments. Key Responsibilities
Engineering Standards: Pro-activate provides guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures. Reviews project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables. Quality / Continuous Improvement: Promote quality within project/group/section; review design inputs to ensure consistency; assist to ensure deliverables are in compliance with codes and standards; responsible for drawing control and historical records; demonstrate personal accuracy and drive continual improvement. Engineering Production: Apply basic engineering principles to develop moderately complex design concepts and deliverables; exercise judgment in input interpretation; provide technical guidance to other professionals; perform design calculations, material quantities and estimates; use advanced applications (e.g., modeling and design software); may review others' deliverables and define work assignments and schedules; may participate in plant start-up activities. Project Coordination: Coordinate with design group personnel to review and exchange project information; may support field activities; may communicate project design requirements, progress and schedules. Client Focus: Assist with identifying key client interests and drivers; communicate client needs to project team and develop approaches to satisfy them. Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: May assist management in developing design standards and process improvements; identify training needs; may be recognized for expertise in one or more areas. People Management: Assist with performance management, recognition, corrective actions; participate in career planning and development; supervise engineering technicians including mentoring and delegation. Resource Management: Monitor staffing levels and skill sets for projects; identify resource needs and process requirements. Preferred Qualifications
Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Related Technology preferred Bachelor Degree in Engineering Design Related Technology preferred Typically a minimum of 8-11 years related work experience Preferred Non-Technical Skills: Learning on the Fly; Problem Solving; Perseverance; Patience; Time Management; Drive for Results; Self Development; Listening; Informing Preferred Technical Skills: Proficiency with CADD and electronic modeling/document storage systems; Advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS); Advanced experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS); Intermediate knowledge of schematics, wiring, and panel fronts; Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, and document control; Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends; Advanced knowledge of other disciplines; Basic knowledge of construction & constructability practices; Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles; Basic knowledge of procurement & contract administration.
