Join to apply for the Library Director role at Carney, Sandoe & Associates Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an educational recruitment firm, is currently seeking an experienced Director of the Library for the 2025-2026 academic year at an independent school in Middletown, DE. The Director of the Library will serve as both an educational leader and a collaborative partner in advancing intellectual excellence and authentic scholarly engagement for our school community. Responsibilities Inspire a love of reading, foster students' critical thinking skills, and empower students to be capable researchers and ethical users of information. Collaborate with faculty members to design effective research programs that support students in independent research. Develop and deliver comprehensive information literacy programs that focus on critically evaluating sources, applying effective research methods, and promoting the ethical use of information across all academic disciplines. Demonstrate strong organization and planning skills and an ability to create a warm and inviting library environment. Partner with teachers to integrate library resources into everyday coursework. Support teachers in developing research-based assignments that enhance students' information literacy and critical thinking skills. Oversee all aspects of library services, including circulation, reference, technical services, and facility management. Lead and supervise library staff that promotes an inclusive environment committed to serving the learning needs of the community. Develop professional development opportunities for faculty to expand skillset in research methods, information literacy, and utilizing library resources effectively. Manage annual library budget to ensure strategic allocation of resources. Requirements Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent advanced degree with K-12 library experience required. Minimum of 5 years of library experience. 3 years in a leadership or supervisor role strongly preferred. Have substantial expertise in the field and will be: skilled in fostering persistent problem solving, knowledgeable about adolescents’ intellectual, social, and emotional development. Proven ability to develop and deliver information literacy curriculum. U.S. Work Authorization required. Additional Desired Qualities Experience working in independent schools preferred, but not required. Desire to be involved in school-wide initiatives and extracurricular activities.
