Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities Hilton C. Buley Library at Southern Connecticut State University is seeking to immediately fill a temporary 1-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian. The Reference & Instruction Generalist Librarian provides reference service in a cooperative centralized reference environment, specialized reference for assigned academic areas, and library instruction, especially for first-year students. The librarian may serve as liaison with one or more academic departments, developing library collections in those areas, provides general and subject-specific instruction, creates instructional materials and web pages, and may participate in evening and weekend reference rotation. The librarian may also serve on library and university committees. All librarians report directly to the Library Director and work collaboratively as faculty. Required Qualifications Candidates must have an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent;
1 year of professional experience in public services in an academic library setting, or other relevant customer service;
1 year of library or classroom teaching experience at a college or high school level.
Preferred Qualifications Experience providing reference services in an academic library; familiarity with print, online and internet resources used in academic libraries; experience developing instructional materials and tutorials using online tools such as LibGuides.
Strong communication skills; the ability to work with initiative, both as a team member and as an individual.
