Position Summary

The Culinary Artist – Line Cook prepares meals for dining rooms, resident neighborhoods, special events, catering services, and employee meals, ensuring high quality food that is properly seasoned, beautifully presented, and well‑executed.

Reports To

Kitchen Manager, working under the Dining Arts Director – Healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Learn, practice, and mentor fellow artists in the 5 core competencies central to OTF training.
• Prepare a variety of food items served to residents, guests, and employees, including entrees, starches, vegetables, soups, sides, desserts, and breakfast items.
• Understand and comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Label and date all food items accurately.
• Adhere to Dining Arts department protocols.
• Maintain proper personal appearance and hygiene.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, protecting resident and employee rights and following HIPAA guidelines.
• Participate in all scheduled in‑service training (IST) programs.
• Report hazardous conditions, equipment repair needs, and accidents.
• Maintain a high level of food quality and keep workstations clean, stocked, and presentable.
• Attend department and other meetings as required.
• Assist in orientation of newly hired Dining Arts employees.
• Improve communication within and outside the department.
• Perform duties with accuracy and detail orientation.
• Work overtime, holidays, and weekends as assigned.
• Interact positively and professionally with all residents.
• Work harmoniously with other personnel.
• Minimize waste of supplies and maintain kitchen care.
• Greet residents and guests properly.

• Perform additional duties as needed.
• Understand sanitation, food‑borne illness and cross‑contamination prevention.
• Use cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials safely (SDS).
• Honor resident and employee rights.
• Follow department policies and procedures.
• Assist with catering and special events.
• Check catering board daily.

Physical Demands

• Complete WorkSTEPS Functional Testing program.
• Squat, kneel, bend, stoop, reach above shoulders, and lift throughout the day.
• Stand and walk for extended periods; move hands and arms in any direction.
• Tolerate noisy, hot, humid environment and cold temperatures.
• Lift 40 lbs and push carts weighing >100 lbs.
• Tolerate exposure to detergents and chemicals.
• Work beyond duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily as needed.
• Use sight, hearing, touch, and smell.

• Calmly handle frequent interruptions.
• Regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability, and promptness.
• Working knowledge of standard commercial kitchen equipment.

• Bilingual is a plus, but not required.

Minimum Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year prior experience in a related position.
• ServSafe certified; must obtain within six months of employment.
