Position
This recruitment is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for current and future full‑time, part‑time, limited‑term, and extra‑help vacancies at Napa County Library locations: American Canyon, Calistoga, Napa, or Yountville for up to one year.
Bilingual Spanish/English applicants are encouraged to apply; assignments for the Calistoga Library require bilingual Spanish/English skills.
- Permanent full‑time positions: 40 hours per week, eligible for benefits.
- Permanent part‑time positions: less than 40 hours per week, eligible for benefits.
- Extra‑help assignments: non‑benefited, up to 29 hours per week (up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year); not eligible for promotional opportunities open to regular part‑time and full‑time employees.
Employees with bilingual communication skills who pass the assessments are eligible for a bilingual pay differential.
Responsibilities
Library Assistants are responsible for various library duties in circulation, technical processing, and other areas of the Napa County Library and its various locations. Library Assistants interact substantially with patrons, and successful candidates will have a customer service‑driven mindset. The Library Assistant I is the entry‑level classification in this sub‑professional series. Initially, incumbents perform less complex tasks and work under close supervision. As knowledge, skills, and abilities are gained, incumbents may assume greater responsibilities and may be eligible to promote to level II, depending on operational need.
Qualifications
Experience and Education
- One year of general clerical experience.
- Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade, including or supplemented by specialized library clerical training.
License or Certificate
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
- Any required license, certification, or registration must be maintained in active and good standing throughout employment.
Recruitment Process

Supplemental questions and oral panel interview are scheduled for the weeks of November 17 and December 1, 2025, respectively.
