This recruitment is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for current and future full‑time, part‑time, limited‑term, and extra help vacancies at any Napa County Library location:
- American Canyon
- Calistoga
- Napa
- Yountville
Bilingual Spanish/English applicants are encouraged to apply; assignments for the Calistoga Library require bilingual Spanish/English skills.
Permanent Full‑time positions are allocated and benefited positions working 40 hours per week.
Permanent Part‑time positions are allocated and benefited positions working less than 40 hours per week.
Extra help assignments are non‑benefited and may be used for on‑call needs up to 29 hours per week (up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year). Extra help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities open to regular part‑time and full‑time employees.
Napa County employees (permanent part‑time and full‑time) assigned to positions that require bilingual communication skills and who pass the bilingual assessments are eligible to receive a bilingual pay differential.
The Napa County Library and all four locations are an integral part of the communities they serve. Library Assistants are responsible for various library duties in circulation, technical processing, and other areas of the Napa County Library and its various locations. Library Assistants interact substantially with patrons, and successful candidates will have a customer service‑driven mindset.
Position Requirements
Experience and Education: One year of general clerical experience or equivalent to completion of 12th grade, including or supplemented by specialized library clerical training.
License or Certificate*: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
Recruitment Process
- Application Deadline: 5:00 pm PDT November 7, 2025.
- Supplemental Questions Scoring: Week of November 17, 2025. Supplemental questions will be scored by subject matter experts. The most qualified applicants will be invited for an oral panel interview.
- Oral Panel Interview: Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 1, 2025. The most qualified candidates will be placed on the eligibility list and may be considered for current and future positions for up to one year.
