Overview

Volunteer: The Home of Record Project is seeking a Grant Writer to support our mission of serving veterans by helping secure critical funding for our programs. This volunteer role involves identifying funding opportunities, reviewing and revising grant proposals, and developing compelling new proposals tailored to grant requirements. The volunteer will provide guidance on grants strategy, align proposals with funders' priorities, and structure narratives for maximum impact. Collaboration with the finance team to ensure budgets and financial documents meet funder expectations is included. Time commitment: approximately 2-5 hours per week for a few weeks, depending on availability and scope.

Responsibilities

  • Identify potential funding opportunities and support development of grant proposals.
  • Review and revise existing grant proposals and create compelling new proposals tailored to specific grant requirements.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for grants strategy, including alignment with funders' priorities and narrative structure.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure budgets and financial documents meet funder expectations and are presented clearly.
  • Work with leadership and stakeholders to integrate grant development into fundraising strategy.

Qualifications

  • Experience with grant writing and editing; ability to craft persuasive proposals.
  • Ability to identify funding opportunities and tailor proposals to funder priorities.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to interpret financial documents and ensure alignment with budgets.

Organization context

The Home of Record Project is a nonprofit serving veterans with programs such as transitional housing, resource navigation, mental health partnerships, and long-term reintegration programs. The mission is to end veteran homelessness by securing funding to sustain and expand these programs. The CFO will be the point of contact for this project, providing access to financial documents and coordinating with internal stakeholders.
