Instructor - Communication Skills (Limited Term Employment) at Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC). This is a limited-term, 22.86 hours per week, in-person position at the Appleton Main Campus with an expected duration through May 18, 2026.

Job Description Summary

Communication Skills Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of curriculum that meets the needs of students and employers, utilizing instructional strategies that promote student success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Learning Facilitation - Foster student learning by developing instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate instructional technologies to maximize student success across delivery methods (hybrid, in-person, virtual, online).
  • Assessment - Assess student learning and provide regular feedback. Use data to measure outcomes related to persistence, retention, completion, course success, and learning; design improvement strategies based on evidence.
  • Curriculum Development - Develop and continually revise curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with college policy on documentation to prepare graduates for their careers.
  • Classroom Management - Manage schedule, attendance, grading records, environment safety, equipment security, and materials availability; ensure opportunities for student engagement evaluation.
  • Team Participation - Engage in division/department/team activities, planning, development, budgeting, and stay current with changes and initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement - Build ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners; participate in advisory committees and recruitment activities; promote the College and programs.
  • Student Success & Support - Advocate for students, collaborate with Student Services to retain students, close achievement gaps, and advise on class schedules, career information, internships, and program-related details.
  • Professional Development - Improve knowledge and teaching practices through development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and integrating new techniques and technologies. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure for program accreditation.

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Attend Communication Skills faculty meetings
  • Hold office hours each week

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Master's degree in English, Communication, or related field, OR
  • Master's degree and 18 graduate credits in English, Communication, or related field, OR
  • Master's degree AND appropriate licensure in the discipline or subfield they teach.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements

  • Proficiency utilizing learning management system, Blackboard Ultra.
  • Teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
  • Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies and delivery methods.
  • Background check including criminal record history will be conducted prior to hire; information will be considered in determining suitability.

Fox Valley Technical College may consider a combination of education, training, and experience to perform the duties of this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, frequent movement during teaching;
  • Sitting for extended periods while performing tasks and using computer systems;
  • Mobility for meetings, tours, or events;
  • Fine motor skills for writing on whiteboards and using instructional technology;
  • Repetitive motions such as typing;
  • Clear verbal and written communication with various audiences;
  • Travel may be required for off-site teaching or professional development.

Work Environment

  • In-person work required at least three days per week; typically in a classroom.

Additional Information

Pay: $73,900.00 - $86,900.00; pay is prorated based on weekly hours. FVTC offers a comprehensive benefits package, professional development opportunities, and various campus amenities. Applications accepted on an ongoing basis.
