Minimum Qualifications Of Education And Experience

Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or closely related field.

Three (3) years of professional work experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or closely related field.

Two (2) years of professional work experience in video production equipment (DSLR/mirrorless cameras, audio recording, lighting) and editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or Final Cut Pro.

OR

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may be substituted for the above requirements.

Nature of Work Under the direct supervision of the Engagement and Communications Director, the Engagement and Communications Coordinator - Digital Media provides assistance to the Director by carrying out responsibilities of the Department and builds strong relationships within the organization and community while modeling and reinforcing the City’s vision and core values.

Key Responsibilities

Storytelling: video, online, social media, print

Website and digital platforms maintenance

Engagement initiatives

Graphics and artwork creation

Media relations and crisis communications

Produce dynamic and engaging digital media for the City’s website, social media and various platforms.

Manage and enhance the City’s online presence through strategic web content and digital communications.

Oversee content updates, design, and usability to ensure the City’s website reflects community priorities and provides a clear, accessible experience for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Explore and integrate artificial intelligence tools and automation to improve digital communications, content management, and public engagement efficiency while maintaining accuracy, accessibility and data security.

Collaborate with departments to develop engaging, accurate, and timely information that connects residents, businesses, and visitors to City services and initiatives.

Use analytics, innovation and feedback to enhance the overall online experience and guide improvements that align web content with the Strategic Plan.

Partner with the City’s Information Technology team and vendors to support website functionality and accessibility.

Oversee and maintain an active and engaging social media presence by identifying and developing creative content – videos, photos, artwork, messaging – for the City’s social media sites.

Implement proven social media strategies as part of an integrated communications approach that strengthens visibility and demonstrates transparency for City engagements, projects and initiatives.

Manage social media tools and technology to ensure security, consistency, and effective performance tracking.

Assist with planning and organizing engagement events.

Provide media relations and crisis communications support.

Perform physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.

Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.

Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and community customers.

Perform other related work as assigned or apparent.

Qualifications & Conditions Of Employment

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.

Must successfully complete a pre‑employment personnel assessment and background examination.

Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.

Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to not public data. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, incumbent should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished the not public data must be properly stored according to city policy and the Minnesota Statutes.

Hours of Work Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and outside of regular hours as necessary.
