Electric Transmission Designer I – Xcel Energy
Location: Minneapolis, MN or Eau Claire, WI. Hybrid (3 days on site). Paid $25.00 to $35.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
Produce Metering & Relaying diagrams, Communication One‑Lines, Panel Elevations, Schematic Diagrams, and Wiring Diagrams per engineering scope.
Create General Arrangement, Electrical Layout, Cable & Conduit List, Material List, Equipment Enclosure and Substation One‑Line drawings per scope.
Support project planning, scheduling, cost and budget control and communicate to project team members and management.
Perform inspection work and maintain liaison with construction/field personnel to ensure adequacy of design and compliance with plans and specifications.
Plan design activities to assure projects are completed as scheduled and update schedules to reflect accurate status.
Coordinate design development on small routine projects including equipment problems and design modifications required by project changes.
Develop and modify design standards to provide safe, reliable, and cost‑effective designs, and review designs, guides and standards by others.
Serve as the materials specialist for substation and transmission designs, coordinating and managing parts lists, vendor prints, cut sheets, logistics issues and processes.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Associate’s Degree in drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, or related field; or equivalent education and experience.
Working knowledge of GIS, design software, work management programs and related systems.
Knowledge of construction standards, materials, and technical codes.
Knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access).
Self‑starter, able to work with minimal supervision.
Driver’s license may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience coordinating and managing materials/vendor prints, cut sheets and logistics issues.
Experience with PLS‑CADD and/or Bentley MicroStation.
