Primary Purpose


Serves as district videographer, photographer, script writer, and assistant writer and editor for online news source, social media content, online publications, and digital media releases. Also, serves as producer, director, writer, composer, sound, and lighting technician for digital media productions, informational videos, special events, and public relations videos for Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.


Qualifications


  • Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in radio/television/film, broadcast media, journalism, marketing and/or communications
  • Specialized digital media/videography or broadcast journalism certifications or training preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication (written, oral) skills preferred

Experience


At least three (3) years of experience in the communications sector, either with public or private.


Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Proven work experience in broadcast/print journalism, videography, photography, digital media content production, writing, editing/proofing, media relations
  • Possesses significant knowledge of digital media development using a variety of creative suite software including Canva, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
  • Proven record of establishing schedules, working on multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Must demonstrate journalistic integrity and ethical standards
  • Advanced computer skills, communication skills, and public relations skills
  • Possesses inherent artistic talent, able to set up pleasing sets for backdrops, good framing instincts, able to light subject to create an atmosphere conducive to good film quality and complimentary to subject being filmed
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or groups
  • Ability to perform duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with minimum supervision

  • Major Responsibilities and Duties


    • Support all functions of the Strategic Communication Services Department
    • Research, prepare and edit regular video, photography and online news stories
    • Write copy for website, brochures, newsletters, media alerts/releases and other publications produced by the communications office
    • Edit and proofread communications and reports for compliance with legal requirements, district and AP style, tone, substance, clarity, consistency, effectiveness, grammar and alignment with the district mission
    • Take photos at district and campus events, and evening events as assigned, to support storytelling and marketing efforts
    • Take portraits in a studio setting
    • Develop and schedule video projects, informative interviews, and educational videos
    • Design graphics as related to video production, website and social media placement
    • Edit photos before distribution on social media, website, videos, etc.
    • Schedule and communicate effectively in writing and verbally with campus and district employees
    • Complete multiple informational and marketing video and photography projects and news packages in a fast-paced environment
    • Work closely with administrators, teachers, students, and community to organize, interview, and create video productions for informational, instructional, or public relations purposes
    • Collaborate with department and other campus staff on stories, event coverage and other internally generated initiatives that require digital media
    • Effectively utilize video and photography editing software
    • Research content and write scripts in planning meetings and projects
    • Operate a variety of equipment to design and execute computerized editing, animation, titling and graphics
    • Gather, transport, operate and maintain production equipment for field production assignments
    • Thorough knowledge of the video/photography production equipment and methods/techniques used in video/photography productions including video/photography acquisition equipment
    • Thorough knowledge of lighting as it applies to video/photography production
    • Thorough knowledge of programming, equipment, and set arrangements necessary for successful audio-video programming
    • Thorough knowledge of digital High-Definition cameras, video editing equipment, teleprompters, digital scanners and DVD
    • Understand rules and regulations when filming/photographing students and employees
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and employee information and as required by FERPA and employee privacy laws
    • Stay current on developing technology through membership in professional organizations and subscriptions to professional trade publications
    • Maintain district presence on YouTube and Flickr
    • Perform public relations, marketing and outreach associated with student and employee recruitment tasks
    • Assist with writing media alerts/releases, stories, scripts, and social media and website posts
    • Conduct face-to-face, telephone and online interviews to gather information and quotes
    • Obtain and verify information from multiple sources
    • Follow brand guidelines when creating communications and marketing materials
    • Work with communications department, district and campus staff in planning and executing events such as Convocation, Service Awards, Retiree Luncheon, Back to School Fest, etc.
    • Track and report results of communication efforts
    • Create original storytelling ideas that meet the department’s mission and see them through approval, planning, production, and completion
    • Attends Board meetings to take photos, assist with recognitions, and help with media attendance, if needed
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position
