Clark Nexsen is seeking an Automation Controls Technical Designer who will perform numerous Controls Engineering-related tasks, including but not limited to assisting with the assessment, development, installation, implementation, commissioning, monitoring, and maintenance of custom control systems in heavy industrial or manufacturing facilities. Perform automated controls design tasks including understanding, use, and development of automation/control logic, PLC programs, HMI graphics, electrical schematics, P&ID’s, and wiring diagrams. Design and program industrial control systems (ICS) with PLCs, remote I/O systems, RTUs, and HMI components. Collaborate with project teams to design, develop, manufacture, install, and deliver integrated automation controls solutions. Assist with management of mechanical aspects of projects in coordination with project managers to meet budgets, contract fees, goals, objectives, and deadlines. Provide check-out, testing, commissioning, start-up, and calibration of controls systems at customer sites, coordinating with commissioning services as appropriate. Provide assessments, troubleshooting, maintenance, redesign, and end-user training to help clients achieve equipment utilization and operational goals. Recommend equipment operational parameters, technical specifications, calibration requirements, and spare parts recommendations. Prepare, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures for automated equipment and systems. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and Clark Nexsen’s quality control policies and procedures. Perform construction phase services including representing the firm on-site, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing as-builts, as directed. Work with, respond to, and take direction from project managers, PICs, Operations Directors, and Senior Management. May act as a lead or first-level supervisor when necessary. Ability to travel is required. Required Skills

Perform design services including Conceptual Studies, Process flow diagrams, P&IDs, instrument selection, and Control Panel Design with minimal direction. Coordinate and commission all aspects of industrial controls design and installation as requested by the Design Manager or Project Engineer. Develop project schematic designs, design development designs, and construction documents. Comply with quality control policies and procedures. Provide support services during the bidding process. Perform construction phase services on-site, including representing the firm, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing as-builts as directed. Work with, respond to, and take direction from senior engineers and project managers. Possess excellent communication skills. Possess technical precision and creative design skills. Have a client-oriented attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services. Perform work with a high degree of latitude and handle complex issues with expert knowledge. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring. Perform work under minimal supervision, referring only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Be dedicated to professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm. Required Experience

A high school diploma or GED and 7-18 years of project experience in the design and installation, including start up and commissioning of Automation Controls systems, with knowledge of applicable codes/standards. An Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in a field related to automation controls systems; or a Certificate in a related field is preferable. Experience in Automation Controls design for Design-Build projects, DOD and Military facilities is a plus. Membership in ISA (International Society of Automation). Certifications/desirable accreditations: CAP – Certified Automation Professional; CCST – Certified Control Systems Technician; CIMM – Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanics; NICET certificate for Industrial Instrumentation. Ability to effectively utilize current company software for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management. Working familiarity with design and production software to understand capabilities and interact with support staff. Software commonly used includes: MS Office; Outlook; Visual Basic; Rockwell RSLogix (RSLogix 5/500/5000); Siemens Step 7; HMI/PLC software; CIP, Modbus, AutoCAD, Autodesk Plant Design Suite, Revit, and other BIM/3D tools. Working Conditions

We prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed. Most work is desk-based, with occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of minimal weight. The office environment is comfortable, well-lit, and free from hazards.
