Overview
As a student library assistant, you will be working at the Library Services counter, where you will be providing service to all library users. Assisting patrons with basic reference services and providing referrals to specialized supports will be a primary function of your role. You will maintain knowledge of the library's databases and online resources to assist users, and record library statistics. Other regular duties include conducting shelf‑reading, searching for lost and missing items, and circulating and reshelving library materials. You will help maintain the cleanliness of the library space and computer lab, uphold library policies and procedures, maintain knowledge of college services and events, and promptly communicate any issues or concerns to the Library Chair or appropriate staff. If working alone, you will complete opening and/or closing procedures. As an integral member of the Library team, you will participate in team meetings and planning sessions, represent the Library at outreach events, support library staff as assigned, and complete other duties and special projects as needed.
Responsibilities
• Provide front‑desk reference services to all library users.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of library databases and online resources.
• Record and report library usage statistics.
• Conduct shelf‑reading, locate missing items, and circulate and reshelve materials.
• Maintain cleanliness of library space and computer lab.
• Uphold library policies, procedures and safety standards.
• Communicate issues or concerns to the Library Chair or appropriate staff.
• Perform opening and closing procedures when working alone.
• Participate in team meetings, planning sessions and outreach events.
• Support library staff on assigned tasks and special projects.
Qualifications
- Must be a current Keyano College student and legally allowed to work on campus
- Demonstrated strong research abilities, including search and information evaluation strategies
- Outstanding interpersonal and intercultural skills
- Experience with a variety of technology and online platforms (e.g., computer operating systems, OneDrive, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, Canva, e‑textbook publisher platforms, digital tools such as Foxit and Adobe PDF, etc.)
- A commitment to promoting the Library's Decolonization and Indigenization, as well as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) values and endeavours
- Ability to work a variety of shifts (a minimum of 3 hours in length), including mornings, afternoons, and evenings Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
- User‑Centered disposition – demonstrated ability to meet library users at their point of need, with empathy, adaptability, active listening and problem‑solving skills
