Lead Product Designer Capital One

Responsibilities

Partner with Product and Engineering to design technical UX for financial services, data tooling, and process management platforms.

Translate ambiguous problems into actionable design solutions around GraphQL, APIs, data workflows, and task management.

Deliver production-ready assets and partner through QA to ensure design quality.

Use and extend our design system in Figma.

Apply user research and usability testing to refine solutions.

Present work with strong storytelling and clear design rationale.

Role Expectations As a Senior Manager Product Designer, you’ll combine your craft expertise, influence & strategic thinking with an understanding of our customers and the business. You’ll co‑create innovative solutions to complex problems, drive product strategy, and contribute to a thriving team culture of high‑performing designers.

Expected Competencies

Product Design Expertise: Leverage established product design skills across interaction, visual and service design to elevate the quality and maturity of the design practice at Capital One, including vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, and prototypes.

Mentorship: Lead, mentor and consult with teammates to mature the design discipline, build culture, and enable efficient progress.

Strategic Influence: Shape product direction and outcomes by aligning user insights, business goals, and cross‑functional collaboration.

Human‑Centered: Advocate for human‑centered methodologies that align customer needs and business goals, applying data, research insights and design expertise.

Business‑Focused: Demonstrate strong knowledge of products, processes, customers, competitors, and broader market trends to influence portfolio engagement.

Problem‑Solving: Own the problem‑solving approach (issue, impact, resolution) and apply good judgment when exploring alternatives and balancing competing interests.

Collaboration: Engage partner expertise across the organization to support workstreams and identify the people needed to move the work forward.

Communication: Present work across levels and job functions, modeling a strategic human‑centered approach that integrates design frameworks, data and research insights.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating leadership, process, results and impact.

Basic Qualifications

At least 6 years of experience in a Product Design role.

At least6 years of experience in design and prototyping tools such as Figma.

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of UX design experience with a strong focus on technical and data‑heavy products.

Expertise in workflow and systems design for enterprise‑level or financial services contexts.

Familiarity with API‑driven product design (GraphQL experience strongly preferred).

Advanced use of Figma for wireframing, prototyping, design systems, and collaboration.

Proven ability to work in ambiguous, undefined environments and bring clarity through design.

Strong portfolio demonstrating complex workflow design, technical UX, and zero‑to‑one product development.

Experience with data visualization.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Salary McLean, VA: $193,000 - $220,300 for Sr. Manager, Design

New York, NY: $210,500 - $240,300 for Sr. Manager, Design

Richmond, VA: $175,500 - $200,300 for Sr. Manager, Design

San Francisco, CA: $210,500 - $240,300 for Sr. Manager, Design
