SMBW is seeking a talented and driven Interior Designer to contribute to the firm’s portfolio of small to mid-sized projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in interior environments across a range of project types, from workplace and academic to civic and cultural spaces. Additional expertise in full renovation projects and coordination with architectural teams is considered a strong asset. The candidate should bring strong design development skills, a strategic approach to space planning, and a deep understanding of materiality and user experience. The Interior Designer will work closely with project teams, actively contributing to all phases of design and documentation. Responsibilities

Work closely with project teams to develop design concepts and translate project objectives into compelling interior solutions.

Prepare design drawings, presentations, and technical documentation that align with project goals and comply with building codes and regulations.

Research and recommend innovative design methodologies, materials, and technologies to enhance project quality and sustainability.

Participate in design team meetings and contribute to fostering a creative and collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and experimentation.

Assist in preparing and presenting design concepts to clients and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment with project requirements.

Actively pursue professional development opportunities, such as workshops, conferences, or certifications, to enhance design and technical skills.

Support Project Managers in assigning project workflows, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality design solutions.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design from a CIDA-accredited program.

Experience: 3+ years of professional interior design experience, including involvement in design and documentation phases.

Technical knowledge: Familiarity with building and material systems and all regulatory standards.

Software proficiency: Proficient in Revit, Enscape, Bluebeam Studio, and Miro, with the ability to quickly adapt to other relevant design tools and technologies.

Proactive learner: Demonstrates initiative in pursuing educational and professional development opportunities independently.

Licensure progress: Licensure or having taken active steps toward completing the NCIDQ exams is preferred.
