Senior Interior Designer – K‑12 Learning Environments
LaBella Associates is an employee‑owned firm seeking a senior interior designer to lead interior design for K‑12 market projects. The role requires expertise in educational environments, experience leading multidisciplinary teams, and a passion for creating immersive learning spaces.
Responsibilities
Work with clients to discuss goals and provide innovative design solutions for educational environments.
Develop interior learning environments that reflect school brand identity, enhance student and staff experience, and meet safety requirements.
Produce conceptual, technical, and constructable drawings, specifications, and documentation, and direct the design team with limited oversight.
Teach, mentor, and provide professional development to junior staff; delegate tasks clearly and effectively.
Ensure design solutions are creative, innovative, and executed efficiently by the interior design team.
Collaborate across project teams—including architects, managers, engineers, vendors, and partners—to meet client expectations.
Manage project budgets, create fee proposals, and deliver projects within budget constraints.
Participate in marketing and business‑development efforts, including proposals and interviews.
Plan staffing and workflow for projects.
Stay current on design trends, technologies, and concepts to deliver cutting‑edge solutions.
Lead the design process from concept to completion, delivering unique and memorable experiences.
Occasional travel required.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science or Arts in Interior Design from a 4‑year CIDA‑accredited program.
Minimum 8+ years of commercial interior experience with a concentration in K‑12 and/or higher‑education environments.
NCIDQ certification and state certification or registration.
Additional certifications such as ALEP, WBI, or LEED AP are a plus.
Skills and Abilities
Expert proficiency in Revit; experience with AutoCAD.
Advanced knowledge of SketchUp, Enscape, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong leadership and project‑management skills.
Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
Comprehensive understanding of all design and construction phases.
Ability to produce constructible technical documents and manage support teams.
Effective verbal and written communication; presentation and people skills.
Visualization skills to convey design intent quickly.
Team‑player who shares knowledge and mentors others.
Creative, forward‑thinking, and passionate about immersive experiences.
