Location : Livermore, CA (90% hybrid and quarterly/5-10% travel – requires travel including to Auburn and Sierras with occasional overnight stays) Seeking an Instructional Designer to design and develop instructor‑led and on‑the‑job training for apprenticeships in power generation utilities such as inspection software, lock out tag out (LOTO), dam safety, instrumentation and control devices.
You will:
Assess stakeholder needs, analyze complex content, and evaluate delivered training.
Develop learning materials for technical content, including hands‑on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other instructional media.
Perform a detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system for which training will be developed.
Partner with cross‑functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.
Define learning objectives, and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs and to meet the constraints of the learning environment.
Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.
Write clear and effective instructional text, audio, or video scripts appropriate for the target audience.
Participate in milestone meetings with subject matter experts, including task analysis, alpha, beta, and train the trainer.
Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.
Requirements :
Strong instructional design experience and experience performing front‑end analysis and job task analysis.
Experience with Digital Control Systems or Lock Out Tagout or Electrical Switching.
Strong technical training and development background.
3+ years’ experience developing instructor‑led training and on‑the‑job tasks for technical skills.
Strong knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.
Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams and Storyline.
