Communications Officer I – Police Support Services
Join to apply for the Communications Officer I – Police Support Services role at City of Melbourne.
This is a trainee position. Individuals selected will enter a training program that provides the ability to advance to a Communications Officer III position over an 18‑month period and achieve a rate of pay of $16.16 per hour. Completion of the training program and progression to Communications Officer III within 18 months of hire is a condition of continued employment.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Dispatcher, telephone operator or progressively responsible work experience involving public contact in a fast‑paced environment.
Emergency dispatch experience is beneficial.
Ability to type 40 words per minute.
Typing test from CareerSource Brevard taken within the past year must be submitted with the employment application.
Must meet all Florida Department of Health requirements to be certified as a 911 Public Safety Tele-communicator.
Must pass Critical testing with a score of 4,100 key strokes per hour or better and an overall score of 80 % or higher.
Must pass a background investigation and polygraph examinations.
Candidate must achieve Florida Department of Health 911 Public Safety Telecommunication testing certification within one (1) year of employment start date.
Candidate must achieve FCIC/NCIC certification within six (6) months of employment and maintain a valid certification through employment.
